2008 SERVICE PROJECT: MENTAL HEALTH
WEEK
The Psi Omega Pi Chapter of
the Chi Sigma Iota would like to recognize
Jennifer Morgan Gallagher, Chair
of Service Projects for 2007, for her exceptional efforts in making the
first Mental Health Week at
Hohokam Campus a worthwhile endeavor and success. The goal of Mental Health
Week was to offer information and raise awareness of the help available for
mental health issues and concerns
Ms. Gallagher is commended for her creative
approach on preparing for and organizing this important event. She designed
reusable informational posters and eye-catching banners that encouraged
students to stop by to ask questions and browse through the various
information provided. Ms. Gallagher’s service project plan included:
☞
Throughout the week of March 17, 2008,
setting up tables, posters, and banners in the lobbies of both classroom
buildings (the 3- and 7-story buildings on campus).
☞
Volunteer Members of the Psi Omega Pi honor
society staffing each table from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
☞
Literature racks displaying information on
anxiety, depression, eating disorders, stress, sleep disorders, domestic
violence, and abuse.
☞
Providing brochures from local mental health
agencies and community resources.
☞
Flyers offering free counseling through the Counseling Skills Center
were also available.
Ms. Gallagher and the members of Psi Omega
Pi that volunteered for this meaningful project felt their time was well
spent and the goals of the event were met. Numerous individuals stopped by
and garnered important information that would be useful to themselves,
family members, and friends. It is anticipated that this will become an
annual event.
In addition, Psi Omega Pi is proud to
announce that Ms. Gallagher, President-Elect, and Ms. Ruth Ann Rowland,
President, will be sharing this Service Project at the Western Association
for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES) Conference being held
November 6 – 9, 2008 in Palm Springs,
California. CONGRATULATIONS!
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS
WHO MADE THIS SPECIAL PROJECT A SUCCESS!
